MembersOwn Credit Union is providing notice to impacted individuals of a security event.

MembersOwn identified suspicious email activity and immediately took action to secure its email environment. There is no evidence that any personal information has been or will be misused. The security of personal information is very important to us, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. 

 

What Happened?

On June 13, 2024, MembersOwn identified suspicious activity associated with its email environment. We immediately implemented our incident response protocols, secured the email environment and engaged independent computer forensic experts to assist with an investigation. The investigation found that there was unauthorized access to one (1) email account between June 12, 2024, and June 13, 2024. We conducted a thorough review of this account to identify any personal information present in the account during the unauthorized access. MembersOwn learned that personal information was present in the account on approximately September 3, 2024. Letters were mailed to those individuals for which MembersOwn had addresses.

 

What Information Was Involved?

From the review, it appears that the impacted accounts may have included individuals’ names, and some combination of the following data elements: addresses, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers or other state identification numbers, individual health insurance policy numbers, financial account information and payment card information.

 

What We Are Doing:

MembersOwn has taken proactive measures including resetting passwords for email accounts and reinforcing multi-factor authentication measures.

Letters were mailed to individuals for whom MembersOwn has addresses, which contain more information about the incident as well as instructions for enrolling in credit monitoring and identity protection services through Experian, the data breach recovery experts.

 

What You Can Do:

Impacted individuals should be vigilant for the next 12 to 24 months and review credit reports, bank account and other financial statements, and immediately contact their financial institution if they identify suspicious activity.
